Finding Paris

My name is Kaitlin, and I am from Maine. I grew up there but spent my four years of college in Vermont. After graduating and earning a degree in psychology, I packed up my bags, gathered my money, kissed my goodbyes and headed off to Europe. Two months, seven countries and countless life experiences later, I was settling back into my cozy roots in Maine. As good as it was to be home, I knew I had been bitten by the travel bug and that it would not take long before I was itching to embark on another journey. Sure enough, it has been two years since my return from Europe, and I am ready to head off again for my next great adventure. This trip, however, has a bit of a different feel than the last. Rather than taking on the care-free spontaneity and anxious unknown of a backpacker’s journey, I will instead be relishing the security and structure of a life abroad as a “local”. I am thrilled to say that I have accepted a position as an au pair for a wonderful and loving French family in Sèvres, a suburb of Paris, France. I will be leaving the USA at the beginning of October and spending a year as an American au pair in Paris, likely dazed and confused but dizzily happy and aiming to take it all in with just two wide eyes and one open mind. Follow me along as I spend the year finding Paris…
